I do not want to get a copy and paste from wikipedia, so for short, the Khmer Rouge is a single Communist Party, whose leader was Pol Pot, and came to power in 1975.
The basic ideology was to return Cambodia al "Year Zero" by systematically killing all the people who received an education and "rehabilitating" the other manual labor "without mechanical assistance." So about 2 O00 000 Cambodians were massacred in 4 years, which makes Pol Pot's one of the greatest murderers of the twentieth century.
In December 78 that the Vietnam invades Cambodia and then discover the extent of the massacre. Today
former Khmer leaders are tried, but the damage is. They left a country weak and dependent on international aid due to a lack of brains that can build the educational, legislative, ... worthy of the name.
Cambodia is now a constitutional monarchy, should therefore speak of the Kingdom of Cambodia. And unfortunately for this Kingdom, the current Prime Minister (a former Khmer Rouge party) attributes to himself, little by little all the powers, which tends to return the country to a dictatorship.
